One of Clara and Marco’s Excursions:
Between “Le Pievi” and valleys of the Arbia and Ombrone (About 4 hours in Expert Knights)
We rise early and prepare the horses for this fascinating ride through the Sienese Hills! We depart, descending towards the small country town of Buonconvento (a medieval hamlet of early historical importance dating 1191 conquered by Arrigo VII who died there is 1313). From here we cross a country road and begin to climb through the soft hills encompassing Siena, brushing past the Bellagatta and Poggio ai Fratti farms and finally crossing one of the most impoverished valleys of our countryside the Val di Stenti, namesake to its newly restored farmhouse. From here one can admire a view of the entire valley all the way to the Ombrone River. We push on to the Pieve Sprenna Farmfollowinga long Pine-lined lane upon a crest from which the Arbia Valley can be admired form both sides and ahead the town of Montalcino surrounded by its famous Brunello vines. We return passing through small woods and vineyards, towards Pieve a Salti following the Arbia Riverwhereone can often spot splendid herons. We find ourselves back at Buonconvento ready to turn towards home but … a visit of the medieval hamlet is advised. We leave our horses in the area set aside for horses by the council and admire the historical center of the old town encompassed by her walls built upon the orders of the Governor of Siena in 1379.
